Program Overview
Are you interested in Japanese language or culture? How about technology and design in a Japanese context? If so, this program will be particularly interesting for you!
“User experience” refers to all aspects of a user’s interaction with a product or service, including their perceptions, emotions, and behaviors during an experience. You are not required to have prior knowledge or experience with user experience or design in order to apply to this program.
Japan is currently ranked third, just behind China and the U.S., for the number of web design firms that have won at international juried design competitions and awards.* Japanese web design does not follow the idea that “less is more”, a guiding principle for American websites. A defining characteristic of Japanese web design is adding more elements, nor fewer.
This aesthetic is a reflection of Japanese art, noted for its rich detail. Japan’s strong impact on web development and digital media and unique design aesthetics make it an exceptional place for students to visit to broaden their educational understanding of global design.
While in Japan learning about all these topics, you will also take excursions to visit art museums, historical landmarks, and culturally impactful locations in places such as Shinagawa, Akihabara, Harajuku, Shibuya, Asakusa, and Ueno in Tokyo.
You will also visit and explore the classical city of Kyoto where you will see Kyoto temples, shrines & museums including the world famous Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and more!
